Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our weekly blog, we aim to send out an update of events, developments, news and activities throughout each month; this will replace our existing weekly email.
It has come to that time of year when we say goodbye to some of our pre-school children, we would like to wish Lily and Ryan lots of luck at school and for the future.
Snails
This week is a quiet week in the snails and they will be joining with the caterpillars for the week.
Days off – Sarah Friday
Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be looking at movement and space; they will also be dancing and making movements with their bodies to music, having tunnel play, soft play, rolling and laying in empty spaces, throwing and catching balls, floor painting and puzzles.
Days off – Abi- Monday  Jamie – Friday
Holly is on annual leave all week
Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds will be looking at playing outside, they will be playing with water in the garden, playing with tunnels and tents, taking part in running games in the garden, making coloured sand pictures using toys, having soft play, exploring the garden for bugs, having group time with the rabbits and using the weather to our advantage i.e. windy making kites, rain splashing in puddles.

Benita is on annual leave all week

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be concentrating on our community, they will be building a town using small world houses, road maps and cars, looking at a map of Guildford – “Can you find the nursery?”, using small world people to talk about different jobs and painting pictures of where we live.
Days off – Sam – Thursday    Krissi – Monday


Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at sand & water play indoors and outdoors; they will be using sand and water to see if we can make structures, using measuring cups to measure the different quantities of water, using the builders trays to fill with sand and encourage mark making in the sand; they will also use sand and paint to add texture to paintings. The children will also be watering the vegetable garden which will lead on to talking about why they need water to grow. We will also be having a treasure hunt in the garden as well as using mop heads and paintbrushes to make marks on the patio area in the garden.
The preschool would like to remind all parents to please check your child’s tray as a lot of leavers have left things behind.

The ‘First Aid for Parents’ course will take place on Saturday 13th October from 9:30-11:30 we still have 3 available places for any parents that are interested. Please be aware these will be given on a first come first served basis so if you would like a place please see Leanne or Michelle.

From September we will be introducing stay and play sessions on the 2nd and 4th Fridays of each month from 2:30-4pm this gives parents the opportunity to come in and play with their children. The dates for September’s stay and play are 14th and 28th. We hope to see you then.

Staff changes

ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Parents
It is with sadness that we have to say goodbye to Sam Stewartson.  Sam has been with the company for 5 years and has progressed from nursery practitioner team leader to third in charge and SENCO for the setting.   Sam is continuing on her professional career pathway and taking up a deputy manager’s position in Camberley.  I am sure that you will all join me in wishing Sam all the best for the future. Sam’s last working day with us shall be Friday September 28th 2012. Interviews shall take place shortly for Sam’s replacement and an announcement shall take place as soon as this process is completed.  In the meantime if anyone would like to discuss this further, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Dear Parents and Carers

It has come to that time of year when we say goodbye to some of our pre-school children, we would like to wish Max R and Sebastian LV lots of luck at school and for the future.
Snails
This week is a quiet week in the snails and they will be joining with the caterpillars for the week.
Days off – Sarah -Friday
Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be looking at our bodies. The children will enjoy activities such as feet painting, hand printing in coloured wet sand, soft play, looking at family books, mirror play- exploring our reflections and finding our facial features, role play washing feeding and patting babies and exploring messy food play with our hands.
Days off – Abi- Thursday, Jamie – Friday

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds will be continue to look at Families and Friends, they will be singing songs with their friends, eating a picnic tea with their friends and teddies, playing ball games to help learn their friends names, putting on finger puppet shows, turn taking games, and hand and foot print pictures.
The ladybirds would like to show the children some ultrasound pictures and would like to ask parents to bring one in so we could photocopy them.

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be concentrating on ourselves. They will be making our homes using boxes, selotape glue, paint and scissors, dancing with music to their favourite songs, talking about our sizes who is big and who is small, counting fingers, drawing self portraits and encouraging the children to point out their features.
The Bumblebees are having a princess and heroes party on Thursday so please feel free to dress up, we are try to raise money for the crackerjacks children’s trust so a small donation would be kindly appreciated.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at small world. They will be making a magical small world with princes and princesses, creating a book of small world adventures using photographs, creating a world in the block area using small bricks in a big space, exploring the super hero CD rom on the computer, making small world figures using felt and pegs and create accessories for our fire station.
The preschool are holding a heroes, prince and princess party on 30th August to raise money for charity, they will do lots of prince/princess activities and ask all children to dress up for the day.
We are hoping to visit the Guildford museum on Friday afternoon please see Lee or Leanne if you would like your child to join us but do not usually attend on Friday afternoon.

Jo and Kay are on annual leave all week

The First Aid for parents course will take place on Saturday 13th October from 9:30-11:30 we still have 4 available places for any parents that are interested please be aware these will be given on a first come first serve basis so if you would like a place please see myself or Michelle.

The nursery will close at 6pm on Friday 25th August and reopen at 8am on Tuesday 28th August.

Our Blogg 17/08/12

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our weekly blog, we aim to send out an update of events, developments, news and activities throughout each month; this will replace our existing weekly email.
It has come to that time of year when we say goodbye to some of our pre-school children, we would like to wish Sadie, Charlie and Joe from Butterflies a great time at school at in the future.
Snails
This week the Snails will be concentrating on body parts, they will enjoy activities such as body painting with textures i.e. sand and paint, exploring their body parts in a mirror and pointing out eyes, ears and mouth, feet painting, exploring messy food with their hands and singing body part songs.
Days off – Sarah Friday
Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be concentrating on communication, language and literacy; they will be mark making in cornflour with people, cars and animals, encouraging the children to say Ta the at the table as well as saying and waving hello and goodbye to key people, reading and looking at family books, building towers with blocks, singing songs and encouraging physical development through soft play.
Days off – Abi- Thursday Jamie – Friday

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds will be concentrating on Families and Friends. They will be making playdough together, making sensory bottles to take home, reading stories about families and friends, making a “what a baby needs book” and colouring in pictures of bottles etc, painting a picture of mummy and daddy, making a pasta photo frame for a family picture and role play with babies.
The ladybirds would like to show the children some ultrasound pictures and ask if you would be able to bring one in if possible so we could photocopy it.

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be concentrating on Families and will be looking at family books, role playing mummy and daddies, bathing babies in the water tray, making masks of themselves, drawing pictures of their families and using small world people to make families

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will continue to look at the Para-Olympics; they are going to play ‘Blind Man’s Bluff’ in the garden, practice hopping and crawling instead of running, have a 3 legged race in the garden and they will use bikes to play “What’s the Time Mr Wolf”.  They will also be feeling toys with their eyes closed describing textures, cutting out shapes one handed and food tasting whilst blindfolded.
The preschool are holding a prince and princess party on 30th August to raise money for charity, they will do lots of prince/princess activities and ask all children to dress up for the day.

Kay is on annual leave all week

Our Chef Wendy.M is on annual leave Friday but her assistant Wendy.N will take over the cooking for the day.

The First Aid for Parents’ course will take place on Saturday 13th October from 9:30-11:30. We still have 5 available places for any parents that are interested. Please be aware these will be given on a first come first served basis so if you would like a place, please see myself or Michelle.
We are also planning a picnic in the park (Stoke Park) on Saturday 13th October at 12pm to celebrate the nursery’s 9th Birthday; we invite all parents and children to join us on the Stoke Park fields and bring a dish of your choice. We will also have a contingency plan in place if the weather is wet such as gazebos and floor mats. We hope to see you all join us to celebrate our birthday.

Dear Parents and Carers

It has come to that time of year when we say goodbye to some of our pre-school children, for those children who are leaving us for school and pastures new, we wish you all the best.
We would like to wish a very happy birthday to Alfie from Butterflies who celebrates his 4th birthday, Hector from Bumblebees who celebrates his 2nd birthday and Esme from the Snails who celebrates her 1st birthday this week.
Snails
This week the Snails will be concentrating on cars, they will be gluing and sticking car pictures, pushing and pulling cars and using small world cars and people.
Days off – Sarah Wednesday
Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be concentrating on developing sensory play, they will be mark making in wet and dry sand, exploring sensory bottles, finger painting - exploring different textures and using smell bags with lavender and spices.
Days off – Abi- Thursday Jamie – Friday
On Tuesday Jamie will be spending time at our Shamley Green setting
Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds will be concentrating on mini-beasts. They will be making mini-beasts such as spiders out of box craft, making bug masks and using them for role play after; also they will be looking for bugs in the garden and talking about where they live.
Can we please ask if you have any boxes whether they are cereal boxes, shoe boxes etc, if you could bring them into nursery thank you.

Amy is on annual leave on Thursday
On Friday Emma will be spending time at our Shamley Green Setting
Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be concentrating on the story of Handa’s Surprise and will taste a variety of fruits including guava and passion fruit and balancing different objects on their heads such as rubber rings and baskets like Handa in the story.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will continue to look at the Olympics, they are going to be completing obstacle courses in the garden, practising their gymnastics on the soft play and they will be having their own medal ceremony.
The Butterflies team have asked that on Thursday 9th August the children come into nursery in the colours of their own flags.
Also they have asked if you have been to the Olympics and taken any photos to bring them in as they would love to see them.
