Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our weekly blog, we aim to send out an update of events, developments, news and activities throughout each month; this will replace our existing weekly email.
It has come to that time of year where the weather is changing and it is starting to get a bit chilly, please can you make sure your children are well equipped with warm clothes, a coat and some wellies.   
This week all the rooms will be centring their activities around Halloween, and will all be dressing up on Wednesday so please come along in your Halloween fancy dress.
Snails
 The children will be decorating Halloween biscuits, painting with root vegetables, messy food play with pumpkin and gluing and sticking on pumpkins
 Days off – Sarah - Monday
Caterpillars
The children will be decorating Halloween pumpkin pictures, icing biscuits, messy play exploring the texture of pumpkins, heuristic play with winter vegetables, making cat and pumpkin masks, roots vegetable painting, gluing and sticking on witches hats and orange and black table painting.
Days off  Abi – Friday
Holly and Jamie are on annual leave all week
Ladybirds
The children will be decorating cat, bat and spider shaped biscuits, making wands with rolled up paper, string painting on black paper with white paint to make a spider’s web, using orange playdough, sponge painting with moons and stars, and making wizard hats using paper and stars to decorate them.

Bumblebees
The children will be decorating biscuits with orange and black icing, creating pumpkins with orange playdough, pumpkin printing, reading stories ‘Meg and Mog’ and ‘Room on the Broom’ and making witch/wizard hats with black card.

Butterflies
The children will be making Halloween cards, carving pumpkins using knives and spoons, making pumpkin soup, jelly and cornflour play and making spider’s webs, spiders and pumpkins
Could we please kindly ask for donations of pillow cases and tea towels for this year’s nativity.

Kay is on annual leave all week

Please can we remind all parents to complete, sign and return the new all about me forms.
Please can we remind parents to replenish their children’s nappies and wipes on a regular basis, we are finding a lot of children without either nappies or wipes for weeks at a time. Please see your child’s communication book or room door for a reminder when they need replenishing.
Unfortunately we must request that parents no longer bring in their own food, this is a legal requirement in accordance with the food standards agency. If you have any queries or questions please see Michelle or Leanne.

From Monday 29th October we will be introducing new parent communication and toilet training books for the children these will replace the blue books we are currently using. We also have a new shed for buggies which will be locked every evening so please make sure all buggies are taken home when you collect your child.

Snails
This week the snails will be looking at the garden and outdoor play; the children will be playing with water splashing with boats and fish in the garden, making marks using chalk as well as sound play, exploring the texture and feeling of wet and dry sand, heuristic play exploring natural materials outside and ball play exploring different textures and shapes and sizes of balls.

Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be looking at science through art; the children will be finger painting exploring what their fingers can do, messy food play exploring textures and making marks, brush painting exploring different brushes and the marks they make as well as making and exploring playdough, exploring the texture of cornflour and having ice cube play and feet painting.

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds interests will be arts and crafts; the children will be table painting making prints from the paint on the table, doing sand pictures using coloured sand to make patterns, ice cube painting with magic books, potato printing with different shapes, playdough play with rolling pins and shape cutters, sticking with coloured glue and sequins and floor painting with bright colours .

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will continue to look at healthy eating; the children will feel different textures of food including flour, beans and peas; they will make a craft fruit box, role play picnic,  play the fruit and vegetable matching game, do vegetable printing and have running games in the garden.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at water play. The children will be using blue scoops to weigh out water in the scales whilst talking about balance and weight. They will be using origami to make paper boats and play with them in the water tray; they will also play with cornflour encouraging them to make the right consistency using water; they will also take part in sinking and floating activities and use ingredients such as oil and food colouring to watch how they mix or separate with water; the children will also create a waterfall using guttering and building trays.
  This year’s Preschool Nativity will be The Bossy King.  The children have started to learn the songs and their speaking parts and would love some donations of pillow cases and tea towels. Every preschooler will receive a pack in the next week with a CD and song book to learn at home. The nativity will take place on Friday 7th December at 10am. Please note that we only have space for 2 adults per child for the showing of the nativity. If any children are not able to attend on that day, please let Leanne or Jo know asap.

We are launching our new birthday cakes where your child will be able to enjoy a unique homemade cake which they will be able to eat at lunch time with their friends as part of a birthday celebration lunch. This is due to the children not being able to eat shop bought cakes on the premises due to special diets and allergies. All cakes will be decorated with their own figurine which the child can take home with them afterwards; the cake will cost £10. If you are interested please e-mail the nursery.

Dear Parents and Carers

Snails
This week the snails will be exploring sand and water. The children will be enjoying a wide variety of activities which will include exploring filling and emptying containers, water play with sea creatures and animals, making marks in damp sand, bathing toy babies with sponges and water and cornflour play.

Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be looking at cars and horses. The children will be car painting rolling cars through paint to make marks, riding on cars and bikes in the garden, exploring the car garage, making marks with cars in food play, making horse footprints in paint, horse and car shapes in play dough, singing car and horse songs such as ‘Horsey Horsey’ and exploring the happy land farm.

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds interests will be self help skills; they will be encouraged to wipe their own noses, finding their own coats and shoes, choosing their snacks, choosing their own resources at craft time, washing their hands and faces with grown-ups help, helping and choosing which toys to set up in the garden, singing songs such as ‘This Is The Way’ and finding their own drink bottles and putting them back on the shelf when they are finished.

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will continue to look at healthy eating. They will be using different materials to create apples and pears, playing with tills encouraging children to role play buying healthy food, talking about going to the supermarket, reading Handra’s Surprise, planting watercress and messy play with various foods.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at Imaginative/Role play, they will be working through their superhero cd, turning the block area into a builders yard and writing down plans and measuring their buildings, being princes and princesses practicing putting on clothes, making crowns and accessories, small group play using people and puppets, making telescopes and binoculars to play ‘I Spy’ in the garden, reading and discovering their story sack and role play carpenters/joiners at the woodwork bench exploring the room and finding out how things are made.
This year’s Preschool Nativity will be The Bossy King. The children have started to learn the songs and their speaking parts and would kindly love some donations of pillow cases and tea towels. Kids Club Videos will be coming into Nursery on Monday and Wednesday this week, they take a video of your child riding in a sleigh with a Christmas background, they are really fun and make a great Xmas present.
Tempest Photography will be taking pictures of the children on Friday 19th October from 9:30 till 11, if your child does not attend on Friday you are welcome to bring them in for the photos.

Parent Reminder

We will be holding a nursery picnic on Stoke Park fields this Saturday 13th October from 12pm till 2pm to celebrate the Nursery’s 9th Birthday. We would love it if you could all join us and bring a picnic blanket and a dish.
I have looked at the weather forecast and at the moment it is looking likely we will not have any rain, I will continue to check throughout the week and let all parents know of any changes to the venue.

W/C 8th October

Dear Parents and Carers

Welcome to our weekly blog, we aim to send out an update of events, developments, news and activities throughout each month; this will replace our existing weekly email.
It has come to that time of year where the weather is changing and it is starting to get a bit chilly, please can you make sure your children are well equipped with warm clothes, a coat and some wellies.   
Snails
This week the snails will be exploring sensory and textures. The children will be enjoying a wide variety of messy play which will include messy food play with hard textures using pasta and rice; also they will use soft textures like angel delight and mash potato. They will be doing corn flour play as well as enjoying musical instruments in the garden.

Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will also be looking at sensory and textures. The children will be exploring paint on their hands and feet, they will be looking at ice cubes and looking at them frozen and defrosted. The children will be using their smell and touch for the smelly bag activity and they will be moving their bodies to their favourite music.

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds interests will be autumn they will be looking at autumn books, painting pine cones and decorating biscuits. They will also enjoy leaf printing and welly boot painting in autumn colours.
Any children who would like to bring some of their own leaves in are more than welcome.

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be looking at healthy eating. They will be discussing different types of fruit and vegetables. They will be creating vegetable printing with potatoes and peppers. The children will enjoy a couple of books about fruit these will be ‘Handa’s surprise’ and ‘The Hungary caterpillar’. The bumblebees role play area will be set up for a picnic.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at transport, they will be using the small world toys to create and build a train set village. They will also be looking at all the types of transport the children know and finding them in the mega machine book. The garden will be set up as a busy road so that the children can use their bikes to go round the marked area. The children will be using their skills by guiding the remote control cars around a course made of large blocks.

Just a reminder parents evening is on Thursday 11th October 7pm – 9pm this will give you a chance to talk to your Child’s keyworker about their development. This year we are giving out 10min appointments for you to see your keyworker, each room has their own appointment sheet so please see a member of staff in your Child’s room to book a slot. We will also be doing a taster session during this evening so you can sample a selection of cooked foods from the nursery menu.
Don’t forget Tuesday 9th October is the nursery’s 9th birthday so please help us celebrate this day by dressing your child in a pair of pyjamas, we will also be having the local paper in to take photos.
We also have the health visitor coming to the nursery once a month, so if you would like to come along to get your children weighed or just for some advice please feel free to pop along. However if it is a normal nursery day for your child we are happy to get your child weighed all we ask you to do is to bring your red book in so the health visitor can fill it out.
