Social Contact policy

Aim of policy

To give guidance to both staff members and parents/carers to appropriate social contact outside of the nursery.

Points to consider

This policy works with the Parents as Partners policy and confidentiality policy.

Castle Daycare and Preschool aims to achieve this by:

At Castle Daycare and Preschool we understand they may be social occasions outside of the nursery where parents come into contact with staff members. We want our staff to form bonds with the children’s families however professional boundaries need to be drawn in order to maintain these bonds appropriately.

We would ask all staff and parents to not make links on social networking sites, such as requesting “friendships” on facebook. This is to protect confidentiality and professional boundaries.

Whilst Castle Daycare and Preschool do not facilitate babysitting, we do understand that it may occur. We would ask all parents and staff not to discuss nursery life (even regarding their own child) outside of Nursery times. This can create awkward situations and problems that may affect the parents/staff bond.

There may be other occasions where the staff meet the parents/ carers outside of nursery again we ask all parents and staff not to discuss nursery life (even regarding their own child) outside of Nursery times.

The Nursery is happy to arrange a time for the Parent/Carer to discuss their child within nursery time.

Confidentiality policy

Aim of policy

To give clear guidance on what the confidentiality policy is and how staff members need to adhere to it. This policy works alongside the information sharing policy.

Points to consider

If a child is considered at risk the child protection policy will take precedence over the confidentiality policy where conflict between the policies arises.

Castle Daycare & Preschool have a legal obligation to hold information about children using their nurseries and about staff employed at the nurseries.  It is necessary to record basic information for registers, invoices and emergency contacts.

It is entirely possible that our staff, because of their relationship with both the children and their parents/guardians/carers, may learn more about individual families using the nursery. Consequently our staff team are advised that disclosure or discussion referring to any children or their families using the nursery will result in disciplinary action being taken.

Issues relating to the employment of staff, whether paid or unpaid, will remain confidential to the people responsible for management of personnel.

Students, volunteers and staff on training or temporary work assignments, when observing or working in the nursery, as part of their induction process will be advised of our confidentiality policy and their duty to respect it.

Castle Daycare and Preschool aim to achieve this by:

  • All child records will be held securely or where held on a computer, the equipment will be password protected to ensure access by authorised persons only

  • Staff members are not permitted to discuss individual children, other than for purposes of curriculum planning/group management, or other relevant management issues with people other than the parent/guardian/carer of that child.

  • If any information is requested about a child from any source, for whatever reason, the parent/guardian/carer’s permission will always be sought.

  • Parents will have access to the files and records of their own children but will not have access to information about any other child.

*

  • We will inform parents and carers when registering their child that they can share personal information in the confidence that it will only be used to enhance the welfare of their children

  • Children’s records maybe stored off site at our registered head office at:

Play date Policy

Aim of Policy

To work in partnership with parents, giving both the key person and parent an opportunity to build relationships. The play date gives parents, educators and children the opportunity to build relations without the constraints within the setting, whereby the role of the practitioner within ratio’s causes distractions and strains upon the procedure.

Suitable Persons

In this context, suitable persons are parents of those children already attending the setting.  Whereby other persons such as grandparents or nannies, for example regularly collect the child, a play date may be organised with the permission from the parent.

Organisation

Play dates must be organised during working hours and must be agreed with the manager.  The parent can choose the date, time and venue of the play date which must support the child’s learning and which will not affect the ratio’s within the setting.  These details, along with the name of the person accompanying the child must be known by the manager and practitioner before the play date is agreed.

Conduct

The staff member must take a nursery phone with them and must be contactable at all times. They must also take an evaluation form with them to be completed at the end of the play date, which will allow us to evaluate the benefits of the play date for the parent, practitioner and the child.

Parents are no way required to participate in play dates just as staff members reserve the right to decline from carrying out play dates providing that a justifiable reason is given.

Due Diligence

All participants during play dates must show due diligence for the safety of one another.  If at any time any person feels under duress or at risk, the play date will be discontinued.
