Dear Parents and Carers
Welcome to our weekly blog, we aim to send out an update of events, developments, news and activities throughout each month; this will replace our existing weekly email.
We say a sad goodbye to Emma from the Ladybirds this month who is leaving us as she is locating to another town, her last day will be Tue 16th October.
Snails
This week the snails will be concentrating on autumn. The children will be playing with Heuristic play with objects associated with autumn, e.g. pine cones; they will be exploring during messy play with gluing and sticking of leaves, root vegetable painting and leaf printing , they will also be enjoying bubble blowing in the garden.

Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars will be looking at autumn; they will be exploring the garden for leaves and bringing them into the classroom to do a variety of activities with them including gluing and sticking and leaf rubbing; they will also be enjoying heuristic play with objects associated with autumn and using bubbles in the garden. The children will also be preparing some artwork for their autumn display.

Ladybirds
This week the Ladybirds will be looking at living things such as flowers and plants. This will involve making sunflowers using tissue paper; the children will have the opportunity to grow water cress heads using cotton wool and cress seeds. They will be water painting flowers in the garden and they will be completing a large collage using different art materials.
Ladybirds would like their parents to take a picture of their child next to some flowers and bring it into nursery.

Bumblebees
This week the Bumblebees will be concentrating on the occupations nurses and doctors. They will be box modelling to create a hospital and enjoying stories and songs to do with doctors and nurses. At circle time they will be talking about the roles of doctors and nurses and they will be looking through first aid boxes. The children will also be creating a nurse’s hat.

Butterflies
This week the Butterflies will be looking at autumn, we will have a lot of activities surrounding leaves so we would like to ask parents to help us by collecting leaves with their children and bringing them into nursery. The children will be talking about the changes in the weather and the colours of autumn. Butterflies will also be cooking an apple pie with the children.

We are pleased to announce that Jo Turner will be taking on the position of 3rd in charge; this will come into effect from the 1st October.
We are holding an Early Years Foundations Stage info evening next Thursday 27th October 7-8pm this is to introduce you all to the changes in the curriculum from September 2012, we hope you can make this informative evening.
It is our nursery’s 9th birthday on the 9th of October. We will be celebrating this by having a pyjama party and a party tea, the Surrey Advertiser will also be coming to take some photos.
From Friday 4th October, a health visitor will be visiting Castle Nursery 10.30am - 11.30am on the 1st Friday of each month, she will be available to weigh your children and give any advice; this is a drop in service so appointments will not be needed. If your child attends nursery on a Friday and you would like them to be weighed please bring your red book to nursery and a member of staff will be happy to do this for you.
On Saturday 13th Oct we will be holding a nursery picnic. This will be held at Stoke Park from 12pm, parents are asked to bring a dish of food. If you would like any more information please see Michelle, Kim or Leanne.
Kids Klub will be visiting the nursery on October 15th and 17th this gives you the opportunity to have your child filmed riding a Christmas sleigh; these dvds make great Christmas presents.
Please may we ask parents to donate any empty jam or coffee jars to the nursery; please could these be given to Jo in Preschool.
