Parent News

Dear Parents and Carers

Don’t forget our Summer BBQ tomorrow.  The BBQ’s are here, the bouncy castle booked and the raffle organised.  We look forward to seeing you tomorrow for an afternoon of fun!!

Policies

Snails

The focus in the snails this week will continue to be physical development. The children will be encouraged to build towers using blocks, practice pulling themselves to standing and walking, using walkers, in the garden, for our older babies. Creative activities, this week, include feather painting and gluing and sticking with feathers  The children will also be encouraged to use  the see saw in the garden as well as climbing in and out of the sand pit. 

Planned activities within the Snails surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Caterpillars

This week the Caterpillars team will continue to focus on sensory play and building structures with Lego and blocks.   The children will experience cling film painting, ice play and heuristic play.  The children will also be encouraged to explore the soft picture books.  Creative activities this week include, water painting, gluing and sticking and practising gripping chunky chalks and crayons.

Ladybirds

The current interest in the Ladybirds is textured sensory play.  This week the children will be encouraged to play with oaty playdough, dinosaurs frozen in ice and textured gloves.  The book of the week is ‘The incredible cake’.   Creative activities this week include, root vegetable painting, roller painting and mark making in sand.

Bumblebees

This week the children will develop their mathematic skills by matching number to quantity (1-5), talking about objects that are big, small, tall and round, drawing shapes and writing numbers in the sand.  To help the children develop their understanding of the world, the children shall inspect the plants in the garden, use the ‘people who help us’ puppets during imaginative play and draw people who are important to us.   Activities to support creative development include making playdough, bubble painting and hand and feet painting.  Literacy development shall be supported, this week, through reading familiar stories as a group, drawing our friends and drawing around stencils.

 Planned activities within the Bumblebees surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning which is now displayed on the large notice board outside the Bumblebees room.

Butterflies                       

 This week the children’s interest is arts & crafts.   The children will make animal masks, paper clocks, a handprint rainbow, stain glass butterflies and clay models. The children will use letter cards to sound out simple words (eg) cat and be encouraged to talk about things that we are good at.  The children will also  be encouraged to dance to different tempo’s of music. Planned activities within the Butterflies surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Health and safety policy

 

Aim of policy

Castle Daycare & Preschool, as an employer, are  committed to providing and maintaining a healthy and safe working environment for all its employees, children, parents and families in attendance at our nurseries  and  other people who may be affected by its activities.

The overall responsibility for ensuring implementation of this policy lies with the company board.

This statement applies to all premises and activities within the control of Castle Daycare & Preschool.

Points to consider

Castle Daycare & Preschool will have in place policies and/or procedures specifically relating to;

 

·         Child protection

·         Physical environment

·         Behaviour management

·         Food and drink

·         Medicines

·         Incidents and accidents

·         Arrangements for the dropping off and collection of children

 

Castle Daycare and Preschool aim to achieve this by:

  • as a minimum, to comply with requirements of Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and other relevant legislation;
  • to have in place appropriate processes and procedures to reflect the Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and any relevant legislation such as Health and safety at Work Act 1974.
  • to ensure that employees, children, parents and families and others are adequately informed of the identified risks and where appropriate receive instruction, training and supervision;
  • to safeguard the environment from the effects of Castle Daycare & Preschool activities;
  • to monitor and review the effectiveness of Castle Daycare & Preschool  arrangements and where appropriate to implement improvements;
  • to ensure that the demands of activities do not exceed the capabilities of staff or children to carry out the activity without risk to themselves or others.

The Manager is responsible for ensuring compliance with Castle Daycare & Preschool health and safety policy within their area of control and for identifying a health and safety representative within each nursery.

Castle Daycare & Preschool will actively monitor the performance of its nurseries in the management of risks under their control and the implementation of nursery risk assessments and health and safety action plans.

Whilst the company accepts the main responsibility for implementation of this policy, individuals have an important role in co-operating with those responsible to ensure a healthy and safe working environment. Individuals are required to abide by rules and requirements made under the authority of this policy.
