Dear Parents and Carers
Wednesday 5th Nov we
are having a bonfire night at the nursery between 6pm and 7pm; there will be a
little bonfire and sparklers for the children and parents to enjoy. We will be
serving Hotdogs and Jacket Potato with Chilli Con Carne. Please may you inform a member of staff
within your child’s room if you would like to attend.
Please can parents also see their
child’s key worker to book in a review around your child’s development. These
meetings will be placed during the working day, preferably before you pick your
child up in the evening or afternoon.

Snails
The focus in the snails this week
is treasure baskets and heuristic play. The children will have the opportunity to
play with the new treasure baskets. Activities this week include exploring the
ICT toys, sensory bottles, shape sorters, pop up toys, singing nursery rhymes
and joining in with custards music class. The additional focus in the Snails
this week is senses, the children will be encouraged to explore a range of toys
and activities that support their five senses. The story of the week is ‘soft
touch animal books’.

Caterpillars
This week the Caterpillars team
will continue to focus on the book corner by encouraging the children to use
the book box appropriately and to use and look at the books with care. The
children will have the opportunity to explore different activities such as, heuristic
play, pop up toys, gluing and sticking, painting, exploring play dough and
enjoying soft play. In the garden the children will be exploring sand play by
filling and emptying containers. The caterpillars will also be focusing on
carrying out bonfire and firework pictures.

Ladybirds
The current interest in the Ladybirds
this week is music and movement. Activities this week include dancing with
peers, mark making in cornflour, decorating fireworks, singing nursery rhymes
in the garden, exploring different sounds of musical instruments, chalking in
the garden and mark making in sand using their feet. The story of the week is ‘whoosh
around the mulberry bush’.

Bumblebees
This week the children will be
encouraged and supported with their self-help skills, therefore we will be
focusing on putting on and taking off our coats. The children will be
encouraged to develop their mathematical skills by completing a simple insert
puzzle, recognising numbers and counting on the abacus. The children will also
be encouraged to find and discuss different shapes they find within the
environment. To help the children develop their understanding of the world, the
children shall continue the car park and construction site from last week as
they really enjoyed these activities. The children will also explore building a
big tower using duplo, playing with dinosaurs in leaves and sand and to connect
interstars together, creating shapes. Activities to support creative development
include playing in snow, cling film painting, gluing and sticking with natural
objects that the children find in the garden (leaves and sticks), hand and feet
painting to create fireworks, an experiment on mixing water and food colouring
to create different colours and using the spray bottles to paint. Literacy
development shall be supported, this week by reading the story of the week ‘Monkey
Puzzle’ and colouring in different shapes and talking about the shapes they
know, supporting the children to remember words of nursery rhymes, singing the
alphabet and letter lollies to find the letter of their name.

Butterflies
This week the butterflies will be
focusing on bonfire night. The activities will include tie dye a firework
picture, making rockets, firework prints and discussing the safety around
fireworks by writing up rules to stay safe. The children will also be focusing
on rhyming words, turn taking games, experiments with tools and looking at
sinking and floating, why does this work? The children will be focusing on the letter
of the week, which is, ‘H’ and the number of the week, which is number 16.

Emergency
closure policy
Aim of Policy
To
give clear guidelines if bad weather or building issues should cause a nursery
to close.
Points to consider
In
the event that bad weather or building issues (such as fire, flood or heating
breakdown) makes one of the Castle sites inoperable the staff and children will
be relocated to one of the sister sites.
If
the shortage of staff limits the number of places available the following priorities
will take place:
1.
Children
of Emergency Services and Medical staff
2.
Children
of teachers or school workers/ Children of bank workers/ Children of staff at
utilities companies and Children of public transport workers
3.
All
other working parents
4.
Children
of non working parents
In
the event of staff shortages, parents with current DBS forms may be asked to
support the nursery team in order to maintain smooth operations.
The
manager or person in charge will inform the parents of the children attending
that day of the change by telephoning them.
Answer
Phone messages will be updated and we will try and keep parents as informed and
up to date as possible through emails, our blog and our website.
The
operations manager will be informed immediately about the site change.
Ofsted
will be kept informed at all times of changes in circumstances.
