Parent News

Dear Parents and Carers,

Please can we ask all parents to watch their speed on entering the nursery we please ask for everyone to stick to a maximum of 5 mph when entering and leaving the nursery. Thank you

 

We are still on the lookout for role play items so If any parent has any of the following items that are no longer in use and would like to donate them to the nursery it will be very much appreciated. Hairdryers, curling tongs, hair rollers, empty shampoo and conditioner bottles, big clips, headbands, brushes, and combs. If you have any of the following items, please may they be passed on to Michelle in the office. Thank you!

 

If possible could children please be sun creamed before arriving at nursery and we shall re-apply throughout the day, please can you inform us if your child has had sun cream applied.

 

We would like to thank all of the parents and children who attended the Pre-schools graduation, we hope you had a fantastic time and we wish you the best of luck in school!

 

On Monday 17th August we will be having our flooring done in our baby room; we will keep you updated with any changes within the room for this day.

 

Tuesday 1st September is harvest festival week; activities will be available throughout the week, supporting the children’s learning around the harvest. I will inform parents whether there will be a food collection and to where this will be going if parents and children would like to donate.

 

On Saturday 5th September we are holding a party for our 20th Anniversary from 10am until 1pm. We would love to see you there, Shalford Village Hall. If you know any of our ‘old’ families, please see if they would like to come along as it would be lovely to see everyone!

 

Friday 11th September is Grandparents day, please invite all grandparents to come into nursery and have a taster session of what the nursery provides for your children. Lots of fun games and activities will be happening on Friday afternoon between 2pm and 4pm. Please can you inform a member of staff if you would like your child’s grandparents to attend. Children who do not normally attend on this Friday are still welcome to come and have lots of fun!

Snails

The focus in the snails this week is summer and settling in new children. The children will be able to experience a range of activities, including touchy feely books, sand play, pop up toys pressing buttons, ICT toys exploring the musical piano table and taking part in Custards music class on Friday. Garden activities this week include, exploring sand and water using hands and feet, playing with the wooden blocks in the garden and exploring the rattles encouraging the children to reach for toys. Planned activities within the Snails surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Caterpillars

This week the Caterpillars team will focus on mark making with a variety of textures. Activities this week include exploring cornflour, sand gloop, paint, water with cars, duplo building, puzzles, bead mazes, water play with the tea set, filling tubes, body painting and happy land. Planned activities within the Caterpillars surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development. Ladybirds

The current interest in the Ladybirds this week is transport. The children will have the opportunity to take part in table painting, story box reading the hungry caterpillar, cluing and sticking, mountain train track, exploring stretchy dough, hand print painting, going shopping in the role play and mark making with rollers. Garden activities this week include, dinosaurs in the sand pit, water play with boats, blowing bubbles, balls and hoops and pavement chalking. Bumblebees

This week the children will be continuing to focus on summer activities. Activities this week include playing with happy land characters looking for similarities and differences, exploring the ICT toys and practice how to use them, completing simple puzzles, body painting, smelly painting, soft play, exploring sensory bottles, using the large blocks as a balancing beam, talking about special summer events using our family books. This week on Monday and Friday the children will take part in making Vegetable skewers. The story of the week is ‘Charlies favourite book’. Garden activities this week include, ring games, duplo, drawing, ball games, books and bubbles, obstacle course, car mat and chalk drawing, coloured water painting and washing babies and their clothes and hanging them on the washing line to dry. Planned activities within the Bumblebees surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Butterflies     

This week the butterflies will focus on holidays. The activities include creating a ‘holiday’ display board with a beach effect, making and writing postcards, role playing pretending to be on an aeroplane and making ice creams and sand castles. Garden activities this week include role playing being on a bus, pretending they are on a beach with blankets and towels whilst playing in the sand and ball games. The children will be focusing on the letter of the week, which is, ‘H’ and the number of the week, which is number 17. Planned activities within the Butterflies surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

 

Pre-school have asked if it is possible for children not to bring in toys from home as they get broken and lost, comforters however are still welcomed.

Kitchen Safety Policy


Aim of Policy

Castle Daycare & Preschool have a duty to provide safety controls through the food chain from source to consumption, thus ensuring that food is fit for human consumption and unlikely to be injurious to health.  There is a requirement that a system of hazard analysis is implemented to ensure that any steps in the catering operation that are critical to food safety are identified, controlled and monitored.

We will provide information and training on food safety to employees to ensure that statutory requirements and the needs of the Nursery are met.

 

  • Always shut the kitchen door when entering and leaving the kitchen. The kitchen door must remain shut at all times.

 

  • Any spills should be cleaned up straight away to prevent accidents.

 

  • Handles on pots and pans should be turned inwards to prevent the risk of being knocked

 

  • All plugs must be turned off when not in use.

 

  • Always make sure oven/rings are turned off after use.

 

  • Sharp, heavy, hot or any other hazardous equipment will not be left unattended for any length of time.

 

  • Always keep the kitchen area clean and tidy.

 

  • Always make sure hands are dry before using electrical equipment.

 

  • In the event of a fire, make sure that the correct extinguisher is used.

 

  • Sharp knives should not be washed in the dishwasher.

 

  • No aerosol spray should be used in the kitchen.

 

  • Always wash your hands in the hand sink before handling any food and after handling raw meat, cleaning, handling waste, visiting the toilet and wiping your nose, to prevent cross contamination.

 

  • A kitchen apron should be worn when preparing any food.

 

  • Surfaces should be wiped down with a sanitizer.

 

  • Only cloths of the designated colour are to be used in the kitchen.

 

  • All utensils used should be clean and washed at a high temperature after use.

 

  • Clean tea towels should be used for drying utensils. Always make sure the tea towel is dry as germs breed in wet towels

 

  • Jewellery should not be worn when preparing food.

 

  • Hair should be tied back.

 

  • Shoes must be worn, with closed toes.

 

  • Use the correct chopping board for different foods.

 

  • Any cuts should be covered with a blue plaster.

 

  • Food trays and trolleys should be cleaned after each use.

 

  • All cleaning should be done according to the cleaning rota.

 

  • A cleaning rota is in place to ensure cleaning is done regularly

 

  • All surfaces should be wiped down frequently with a sanitizer.

 

  • Kitchen floor should be cleaned every evening.

 

  • All of the inside and outside of the cupboards and shelves should be wiped down according to the cleaning rota.

 

  • The cooker top should be cleaned after every use.

 

  • The fridge should be cleaned according to the cleaning rota.

 

  • The sink area should be cleaned every day.

 

  • Waste bins should be emptied every day and cleaned according to the rota.
  • Anything not washed in the dishwasher should be washed in hot water(140 f)
