Parent News
Dear Parents and Carers
On Thursday May 22nd, we have a mobile farm which will be visiting the setting (1.30pm – 4.00pm).  The children will have the opportunity to pet the animals and try their hands at feeding the lambs.  If your child does not normally attend during this time however you would like to attend, please do not hesitate to contact me.
We shall be rescheduling our ‘Healthy Eating’ question and answer session, that we had to cancel last week due to low numbers, for in the summer months.  Please watch this space for more details.
Please can we ask you all to complete and return the terms and conditions relating to the interactive learning diaries by no later than Friday May 16th as we will be going live from Monday May19th and parents will then be given their passwords.  If any of you have any queries or would like  any further information, please do not hesitate to contact Michelle.  Thank you
Policies
Please find attached our nappy changing procedure. 
Snails
The focus in the snails this week will continue to be exploring the outdoor environment.  Alisha and Leanne will continue with the activities form last week whereby the children are encouraged to use the walkers in the garden to pull themselves to standing. Creative activities include chalking, bubble play and playing with coloured water, outside.

Caterpillars
The current interest in the Caterpillars are physical activities and playing with the ‘Happyland’ equipment, developing their fine manipulative skills.   This week the children will be encouraged to find ‘hidden’ objects in the garden and will have the opportunity to play with the ‘Happyland’ vehicles whilst adults encourage the children to mimic the sounds different vehicles make.  Other outdoor activities planned include tents and tunnels and building the children’s confidence to walk independently. Creative activities planned for this week include painting with stencils and mark making using crayons.. Planned activities within the Snails and Caterpillars surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Ladybirds
The current interests in the ladybirds continue to be dressing up, insects and bugs, transport and mark making.  This week the children will be encouraged to paint using the wheels of the trains as tools to make marks.  The children will also decorate insect masks and continue to trawl the garden for different insects.  Planned activities within the ladybirds surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Bumblebees
This week group time activities include sponge paining, using letter sponges, using large building blocks to make a balancing beam and, with adult support, using the camera to take photos  things around the room.  The role play area will be turned into a hairdressers, whilst in the sand pit the children will be encouraged to fill and empty different vessels with sand.  The story of the week is ‘Animal bop’.  Planned activities within the Bumblebees surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning which is now displayed on the large notice board outside the Bumblebees room.

Butterflies                       
 This week the children’s interests surround growing.   The book of the week is ‘Jack and the beanstalk.’ The children will be encouraged to act out the story of Jack & the beanstalk, use tongs to transfer objects from one pot to another and encouraged to respond to instructions involving a two part sequence.  The children will also be planting some flowers and herbs in small pots. Planned activities within the Butterflies surround each child’s current interest in conjunction with supporting and extending their development.  To find out what activities are planned for your child for this week, please see your child’s keyworker who will be happy to take you through the planning.

Nappy changing procedure

Aim of policy

To demonstrate how to change a nappy to the highest standard.

Points to consider

Never leave a child unattended on a high level nappy changing unit

Make sure you have everything ready and to hand before you start. 
You will need:
Baby wipes if used or cotton wool, bowl and warm water
Clean nappy
Nappy sack if used
Spare clothes if needed
Barrier cream if required
Disposable gloves
Apron

1.      Wash your hands.

2.      Put on apron and always wear disposable gloves for each change.

3.      Place baby on changing mat.

4.      Remove nappy and gently wipe away soiling with wipes/cotton wool & water.

5.      Clean baby’s bottom with wipes/cotton wool & water.  Girl’s bottoms should be wiped from front to back.

6.      Put on clean nappy and change clothing if required.

7.      Roll dirty nappy up, ready for disposal.

8.      Dispose of nappy, wipes, gloves according to nursery system.

9.      Wash your hands thoroughly.

10.   Wipe over mat with diluted disinfectant spray.

11.  Check under mat and wipe area if needed.

12.  Remove apron/tabard and discard.

13.  The last thing you should do before leaving the change area is wash your hands.

Leave area clean and tidy for next change


Nappy change time should be a caring and sociable time. Make sure you engage with the child as you change them. Nappy change time is also a time for bonding with the child and should be seen as a fun experience for both the practitioner and child.
